COLLABNET ANNOUNCES SYBASE, INC. IS UTILIZING THE COLLABNET SOURCECAST ENVIRONMENT FOR ITS NEW SDN CODEXCHANGE
Providing Members With The Necessary Tools For Collaborating On Software Development Projects Relating To Sybase Technologies and Products
BRISBANE, Calif., April 8, 2003 — CollabNet, the leading provider of collaborative software development solutions, today announced that Sybase, Inc. (NYSE: SY), a leading enterprise integration company, has selected the CollabNet® SourceCast® environment as the underlying technology for the Sybase® Developer Network (SDN) CodeXchange initiative. SDN CodeXchange is a forum for SDN members to exchange code samples, utilities, scripts, stored procedures, and other tools to help make Sybase products easier to use.
SDN offers a single point of access to developer software, services, and related technical information from Sybase. With more than 50,000 members, including developers, partners, system integrators, consultants, and solution providers, Sybase SDN introduced CodeXchange as a new benefit to unite these members and encourage collaborative development on Sybase technologies. The CollabNet SourceCast environment will enable members of SDN CodeXchange to easily download code samples and build applications as well as leverage the experience of other Sybase experts. For SDN CodeXchange, utilizing the CollabNet SourceCast environment is expected to enhance communication between participants, provide a structure for creating multiple projects based on specific Sybase products, and increase discussion and sharing of ideas and successes.
Sybase chose to implement the CollabNet SourceCast environment for SDN CodeXchange because it is the best enterprise solution to meet SDN's unique requirements, combining tools for software development, technical communication, knowledge management, and community management into a unified environment for collaborative software development. CodeXchange will build upon the existing components of the SDN to enhance and expand Sybase's developer community. In addition to general Sybase sponsored code sharing projects, SDN CodeXchange also hosts collaborative development projects where SDN members can work together on Sybase open source code. Lastly, third-party developers will be able to participate in projects started by other community members or even start their own projects relating to Sybase technologies.
"With SDN CodeXchange, Sybase is continuing our ongoing commitment to developers and database administrators (DBAs). As part of CodeXchange, Sybase is providing the SDN community with a valuable resource, the CollabNet SourceCast environment, which includes the tools necessary for collaboration on various projects relating to Sybase products. SDN CodeXchange is the next step in our dedication to support the SDN community and provide them with tools and resources to assist them in working with Sybase products and technologies," said Jessica Bronesky, manager of Developer Programs at Sybase.
Some of the first projects to be launched to SDN CodeXchange include: "ase", providing tools for database developers around the Sybase Adaptive Server® Enterprise (ASE) product; "powerbuilder", supplying sample code and utilities for the PowerBuilder® rapid application development platform; and "ebXML-opensource", an open source project around an ebXML (Electronic Business using eXtensible Markup Language) messaging service designed to enable developers to quickly implement ebXML standard transactions.
"CollabNet recognizes there are significant advantages for companies like Sybase to establish a collaborative development network around its products and technologies. By providing community management services along with the CollabNet SourceCast environment, to manage all project activities, we look forward to rapid adoption of SDN CodeXchange by Sybase developers and DBAs. As SDN CodeXchange evolves, these members will not only be able to obtain resources from Sybase project managers, they will also be able to exchange ideas and share valuable information directly with each other," said Brian Behlendorf, CTO and co-founder, CollabNet.
