COLLABNET AND NEXTEL-KOREA ANNOUNCE MAJOR NEW KOREAN CUSTOMER - SK TELECOM
CollabNet SourceCast Environment Enables Enterprise Collaboration for SK Telecom and Hundreds of Partners Worldwide.
BRISBANE, Calif., November 12, 2002 — CollabNet, the leading provider of collaborative software development solutions, and its partner Nextel-Korea, today announced that SK Telecom has chosen to implement the CollabNet® SourceCast™ collaborative development environment. SK Telecom is utilizing the CollabNet SourceCast environment for enterprise-wide management of its software development efforts for NATE, an integrated Internet portal service. Nextel-Korea, a major provider of IT services in Korea, will provide custom enhancements to the CollabNet SourceCast environment, as well as local support for the SK Telecom project.
SK Telecom is using the CollabNet SourceCast environment to create applications with hundreds of external partners on its NATE platform for mobile wireless Internet service and software. These partners include: 12 handset manufacturing companies, such as: Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics and SK Teletech; strategic partners such as, HP for the SK Telecom mobile Internet platform; more than 500 content and software providers of mobile games, ring tones, picture downloads, stock information, and other services; and numerous solution providers and development companies, including: InnoAce, XCE, and Widerthandotcom.
"The CollabNet SourceCast environment streamlines the complex enterprise development process around NATE services. With the deployment of the CollabNet SourceCast environment, outsourced development activities, previously managed by multiple project managers, are now unified under a single system," said Mr. Kitae Hong, Manager, Technical Planning Team of Platform R&D Center, SK Telecom. "This results in more efficient communication, reduces our administrative overhead, and provides a necessary synergy between SK Telecom and our numerous partners."
Nextel-Korea, CollabNet's exclusive distributor in Korea, developed several customized enhancements to the CollabNet SourceCast environment for SK Telecom. These enhancements include: a Web-based module for viewing and updating Microsoft Project data, integration of SK Telecom's SMS (Short Message Service) server with the issue tracking component of the CollabNet SourceCast environment, and additional user interface capabilities based on local customer requirements. The SMS server integration enables NATE project members to receive notification of issue driven events via SMS wireless text messages as well as through e-mail and the issue tracking archives.
"We recognize the benefits of collaborative software development within our own organization and are now able to extend those benefits to SK Telecom. The CollabNet SourceCast environment maintains a context-sensitive archive of SK Telecom's widely distributed development activities and enables instant sharing of relevant information among all partners. With the enhancements that Nextel-Korea has provided, SK Telecom and its extensive partner base will be able to incorporate SMS messaging and Microsoft Project data into the powerful tools that the CollabNet SourceCast environment already provides," said Dr. Hisup Park, CTO, Nextel-Korea.
"CollabNet was chosen to work with SK Telecom because of our experience with global enterprise collaborative software development projects. This expertise combined with Nextel-Korea's skills and knowledge of the Korean market, enables us to offer SK Telecom a unique solution to their collaboration needs," said Bill Portelli, president and CEO, CollabNet.
