CollabNet Enterprise Edition 4.5 simplifies implementation of development processes and Application Lifecycle Management
New version extends industry's only globally accessible Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) to accelerate delivery of software development projects
BRISBANE, Calif., Oct 2, 2006 — CollabNet, the leading provider of collaborative software development solutions today announced the immediate availability of CollabNet® Enterprise Edition 4.5 which brings breakthroughs to software development leaders who work with geographically distributed teams. The new release facilitates the standardization of software development practices within a worldwide development organization with new features such as an enhanced project workspace and the ability to share development best practices, project content and ALM approach across projects, with technology partners and even customers. CollabNet Enterprise Edition 4.5 is the only industry solution that brings simplicity and flexibility in the way the project environment is set-up, allowing project managers to roll-out development processes and adopt ALM at their own pace.
"CollabNet Enterprise Edition 4.5 redefines the boundaries of collaborative software development", says Richard Murray, vice president of Engineering at CollabNet. The improved project workspace and the ability to rapidly build portable project and application lifecycle templates dramatically extend our reach. CollabNet Enterprise Edition 4.5 puts collaborative development firmly in the hands of project leaders and process designers. I am really excited by the positive impact this release will have on our customers’ ability to innovate and deliver greater value to their businesses."
CollabNet Enterprise Edition 4.5 accelerates the adoption of collaborative development practices in globally distributed development organizations. New features include:
- Enhanced Project Workspaces: Now featuring a Wiki-like editor to help populate project pages with static or dynamic content without any coding. Using a point and click interface, project managers can rapidly design and populate the tabs and pages that make the project workspace, and establish the development process and ALM approach to be used for the project. The project workspace also acts as a hub from which project members can access the development tools necessary to participate in the project - version control system, issue tracker, communication tool.
- Portable ALM Templates: The ability for development organizations to increase productivity and leverage best practices by allowing project managers to quickly and easily propagate project templates from one project to another - all elements defined in a project workspace can be exported and applied as a template to a new project. In addition, project managers can define their own ALM templates and codify them into the project workspace whether they are proprietary, based on industry-standard methodology templates such as RUP or Agile, or made available by CollabNet and its business partners.
- Expanded Reporting: Capabilities that provide out-of-the-box project reporting with point in-time or trend reports that show the status and count of project artifacts at a particular point in time or over a selected period of time. In addition, queries can now be defined at any level of the CollabNet environment - domain, project or end-user - and propagated to any other project or members while respecting roles and permissions to projects and software assets.
- Extensible Platform: An open platform providing an environment that easily connects to most commonly used development tools; interoperability across the development infrastructure is crucial to retain the value of existing development investments. CollabNet'’s open platform includes improved integration with external authentication systems such as Microsoft Active Directory, web services based APIs for CollabNet Subversion and CollabNet Project Tracker and out-of-the-box integration with through pre-built connectors. For example, CollabNet’s bi-directional Connector to Mercury Quality Center allows testing teams and developers to work in their preferred environment while exchanging defect information and test plans between the two systems.
"CollabNet offers a blend of integrated tools that are ideally suited to application development, helping mitigate risks, reduce costs, and deliver projects on time", says Michael Azoff, senior research analyst at the Butler Group. "CollabNet Enterprise Edition enables enterprises to effectively plan, track, manage, and analyze activities associated with software development projects through increased management visibility, earlier in the development process using the Project Dashboard and task management features".
