Barclays Global Investors: BGI Developer Network
The BGI Developer Network achieves an end-to-end, integrated and consistent approach across its entire global software development practice. For this project, CollabNet is configuring the CollabNet environment as an enterprise development network, uniting BGI's internal development groups based in numerous locations worldwide, including: London, San Francisco, Sydney, Tokyo, and Toronto.
BGI developers were able to use the CollabNet environment productively within a few hours of installation. During the first 15 days of launch, 40 projects were created and over 150 active developers, nearly 70 percent of the team, was using the CollabNet environment. Six weeks into deployment, over 150 projects were underway. By the end of February 2002, with 450 users on the system, the team was able to meet its aggressive goal of migrating 90 percent of its production code base to the CollabNet environment.
The CollabNet environment is accessible to BGI employees via a secure Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection, as well as a secure public Internet connection. This allows BGI to extend the platform to other groups of developers; such as home based telecommuters, business travelers, and systems integrators that would typically not have access using other development toolsets.

"When BGI decided to incorporate Web-based collaboration into our development process, we examined several offerings, including some more traditional Software Configuration Management (SCM) software we were already using. We chose to work with CollabNet because of their expertise specific to the challenges of global software collaboration and because we were able to integrate the CollabNet environment into our existing processes rapidly."
—Paul Stevens, global head of technology, BGI
