How Ohloh Works
Ohloh’s approach to data collection is straightforward. Open source contributors submit their code contributions to code repositories such as CVS, Subversion, or other version control tools. Ohloh downloads all the source control changes from tens of thousands of contributors working on thousands of open source projects. Ohloh's analysis engine then calculates project metrics and generates detailed project reports from the source control metadata as well as the source code itself. Project metrics include code analyses, team size, developer contributions, license information, language information, cost estimates, and much more.
Scope of Data and Community
Ohloh has collected comprehensive data on about 12,000 projects and 75,000 developers. This represents most of the active open source projects in the world today.
